Centra is committed to reducing our carbon emissions to be Net Zero carbon by 2040. Centra are also committed to making 100% of our own brand packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.

Mór Oil and Kearney Centra are excited to support this effort.

Compostable Packaging

Centra aims to deliver 100% sustainable deli packaging by 2025. Deli packaging innovations include compostable salad bowls, soup cups, reusable utensils, and compostable sandwich wrapping paper.

Solar Panels

Solar Panels for renewable energy implemented in Lough Atalia location a year ago and in the process in Oranmore. Plus, integrated electronic shelf labels in both locations.

Efficient LED Light Bulbs

100% LED lighting retrofitted in Centra stores across the country by 2027 resulting in a carbon reduction.

Energy Efficient Fridges

Launched initiatives to upgrade 70% refrigeration and 80% freezer doors by 2027, making Centra stores more environmentally friendly.

Plastic-Free Bags

 Centra was the first convenience retailer in Ireland to introduce a 100% compostable bag by 2025. To date this removed over 5.5 million plastic bags from circulation each year.

Sustainable Coffee Brand

Centra serves Rainforest Alliance Certified coffee, in fully compostable cups. It is a non-profit organization that promotes climate-smart growing practices, protects forests, and supports coffee farmers.

Making a Difference with Packaging

Centra aims to deliver 100% sustainable deli packaging in delis nationwide by 2025.

Over 245 Centra stores have reduced 2,017 tonnes of carbon, which is the equivalent of planting 366,800 trees or powering 1,000 homes per year. Initiatives such as upgrading freezers and refrigeration, LED lighting retrofit, solar panels, and electronic shelf edge labels (eSEL), is making our stores more environmentally friendly.

Centra’s sustainability initiatives support Centra’s deli packaging being 92% being sustainable, allowing Centra customers to enjoy freshly made salads, made to order chicken fillet rolls and other deli favourites while ensuring the packaging is environmentally friendly.

Frank & Honest Gourmet Coffee


Our Frank and Honest cups and lids are 100% certified compostable and go in your food waste bin. The cups are manufactured in Ireland in Co. Clare and are made using annually renewable plant-based liner and recycled paper.

Centra is a proud supporter of local & Irish. For every €1 spent on Irish goods, €5 comes back to the Irish economy. Centra and Guaranteed Irish have joined forces to promote Irish products, services and by nusinesses. Guaranteed Irish is a nationwide initiative that supports the promotion of Irish goods, services and businesses. Together, we are committed to helping build a more sustainable Irish economy by supporting local businesses, creating jobs and investing in communities.
